Event time and date: Tuesday, May 9, 2023; 3 pm to 1 pm (ET)

Description:
Selection for residency / post-graduate training has been complex and fraught with issues including over-reliance on metrics that do not align with performance and a relative neglect of data that is important to performance but less measured (some personal attributes and experience, performance in core competencies such as communication, teamwork and leadership). An unintended consequence of these problems in selection is an amplification of educational inequities. With the implementation of CBME, we have an opportunity to rebuild these processes. With the understanding that CBME impacts these traditional resident selection practices, this provocative webinar will delve into how to address some of the long-standing issues and select residents for success in a CBME program. Given that there are individual competencies and abilities that may be important for success in a CBME based program, the impact of this on best-practices in resident selection will be discussed as a way to move forward.

Objectives:
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1) Analyze the impact of CBME on current resident selection practices.
2) List the competencies and abilities that are important for success in a CBME based program.
3) Identify new strategies for selection of residents based in the principles of CBME.
